ABOUT THE SANDHILLS PATRIOTS
In 2005, the Sandhills Optimist Club created a youth football league to serve the children of Moore County, NC. The league included a flag division for ages 6-8 and a tackle division for ages 8-10. In 2007, the league expanded to include a tackle division for 11 and 12 year olds. At the conclusion of the 2007 season, the Optimist Club created an All Star Team which participated in several post-season tournaments. In 2007, the Optimist All Star Team placed second in the USFA Battle of the Carolinas and USFA National Campionships. In 2008, the Optimist’s All Stars captured the North American Youth Football Championships and played in Charlotte for the 11 and 12 year old age group. At the conclusion of the 2008 season, the All Start Team accepted an invitation to join the Piedmont Youth Football League (“PYFL”) as the Sandhills Patriots.
After joining the PYFL in 2008, the Patriots organization won six Super Bowls, seven AFC Championships and multiple North American Youth Football Championships. In 2016, the Sandhills Patriots decided to join the North Carolina Amateur Athletic Union (“NCAAU”) which is history in the making…
The Patriots players primarily reside in Moore County, but several of our players live in surrounding counties including Scotland, Cumberland, Richmond, and Montgomery Counties. The Patriots seek to identify the most talented football players in the area in order to compete with the other league teams in Central North Carolina. We are made up of 3 teams: 8u, 10u, and 12u and have approximately 100 players per year with extremely diverse backgrounds.
In 2012, we added our Cheer Program which has grown leaps and bounds and has been just as successful as our Football Program. For more information on cheerleading, check us out here!
